Tim Palmer in
America by Rivers: "Rivers, indeed, constitute corridors of life, their differences defining what grows there, what swims out of sight, what browses and dabbles along the shore." A deer making its way along the Ottauquechee shore crossed on to the ice and chose to walk in the track left by the snowmobile days ago. That track led right to a new break in the ice upriver.
The deer changed course.
